The Simon Wiesenthal Center joined Chile’s Jewish Community together with  concerned political leaders, in protest against the newly opened “Augusto Pinochet Nazi Art School” on Chiloé Island, in southern Chile.
The school’s founder, Godofredo Rodríguez Pacheco, (pictured) apparently has a criminal record and made clear his political ambitions.
“We urge the Chilean government to investigate the political background ties of Rodriguez Pacheco. Pinochet’s own sympathies and liaisons were amply illustrated by the protective hospitality he granted to Nazi war criminal Walter Rauff and the almost impenetrable training camp, Colonia Dignidad,” stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, SWC Director for International Relations, adding, “It is encouraging that Chile’s Ministry of Education has not recognized the so-called ‘art-school’.”
“Our Center has assisted the Chilean Parliament in passing an antidiscrimination law, which now may be applicable to this case. This is also an opportunity for us to offer our expertise in Holocaust education and advise the government in joining Argentina as a member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (formerly known as the Task Force for Holocaust Education). Argentina is, so far, the only Latin American country among IHRA’s 31 members,” declared Sergio Widder (the Center’s Director for Latin America).

El Centro Wiesenthal reclama que el gobierno de Chile investigue el caso de una “Escuela de Arte Nazi” que lleva el nombre del dictador Augusto Pinochet

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal se sumó a las protestas de la comunidad judía chilena y de líderes políticos de ese país luego de conocerse la creación de una “Escuela de Arte Nazi Augusto Pinochet” en la isla de Chiloé, al sur del país.
El fundador, Godofredo Rodríguez Pacheco, tendría antecedentes criminales y ha hecho explícitas sus ambiciones políticas.
“Urgimos al gobierno chileno a investigar los antecedentes de los lazos políticos de Rodríguez Pacheco. Las simpatías de Pinochet y sus vínculos han sido ilustradas de manera amplia a través de la hospitalidad y protección que otorgó al criminal nazi Walter Rauff y por el inexpugnable campo de entrenamiento de Colonia Dignidad”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal), y agregó que “es alentador que el Ministerio de Educación de Chile no reconozca a esta así llamada ‘escuela de arte’”.
“Nuestro Centró colaboró con el Congreso chileno para la sanción de una ley antidiscriminatoria, que quizás podría aplicarse a este caso. También es una oportunidad para ofrecer nuestra experiencia en programas educativos acerca del Holocausto y para sugerir que Chile se sume a Argentina como miembro de la Alianza Internacional para la Memoria del Holocausto (IHRA por sus siglas en inglés, conocida antes como la International Task Force for Holocaust Education). En la actualidad, Argentina es el único país de Latinoamérica entre los 31 miembros de la IHRA”, agregó Sergio Widder (Director para América Latina del Centro).
