Wiesenthal Center Condemns Bolivia's Decision to Break Diplomatic Relations with Israel Again

Buenos Aires - The government of Bolivia officially announced today that breaks once again diplomatic relations with Israel "in repudiation and condemnation of the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive being carried out in the Gaza Strip and threatening international peace and security."

Minister of the Presidency, María Nela Prada, as interim FA Minister and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Freddy Mamani Machaca

Without ever mentioning the atrocious crimes committed on October 7, nor talking about the more than 200 hostages that Hamas still holds in captivity, the government of the Altiplano nation resumes the path that former President Evo Morales already took in 2009.

Only with the provisional government that took office in 2019 were diplomatic relations reestablished, but the current administration waited for some excuse to relapse.

Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Simon Wiesenthal Center`s Director for Latin America, said “Bolivia's alliance with Iran is becoming clearer every day considering that the breakup is not due to the real interests of the Bolivian people . This is a new example of the influence of the ayatollah`s regime in the region, where they have already caused three attacks against the civilian population of Latin America. In 1992 against the Israeli Embassy in Argentina, and in 1994 against the AMIA Jewish Mutual in Buenos Aires and the Alas Chiricanas flight in Panama, causing more than 130 dead and hundreds of injured.”
