Commemorating The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising: Watch Now

April 19, 2020

In commemoration of the 77th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, Moriah Films presents a video clip, narrated by Orson Welles, from it’s Academy Award®-winning film, Genocide, also narrated by Elizabeth Taylor. The clip highlights the strength and perseverance of the Jewish people, who, under the worst circumstances possible, refused to believe in the death of mankind.

The uprising - the first major civilian revolt against the Nazis in occupied Europe - began on April 19, 1943, when German army, police and S.S. units attacked the few thousand Jews remaining of the nearly half-million who had lived in the Warsaw Ghetto.

For more than three weeks, using only a small stock of pistols, homemade grenades, rifles and bricks, the ghetto occupants fought the well-armed Nazis. The revolt ended in death for most of the fighters yet left behind an enduring symbol of resistance.
