Honoring our Brave Veterans: Veteran's Day 2022

November 11, 2022

Today, we honor and commemorate the brave men and women in uniform, who have sacrificed so much for freedom and democracy around the globe. Every day at the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Museum of Tolerance we are proud to pay tribute to courageous veterans.

FROM “THE GREATEST GENERATION” IN THE MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE LOS ANGELES

Honoring "The Greatest Generation" includes the Mauthausen flag, secretly sewn by inmates of Mauthausen concentration camp in anticipation of their liberation by American forces, uniforms, other archival materials and films highlighting veterans and liberators.
FROM THE SIMON WIESENTHAL CENTER’S ARCHIVES:
Native American twins Bennett and Benjamin Freeny, pictured left, were American soldiers who helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp. Shortly after liberation, Bennett stripped a German officer of his Iron Cross, pictured right. Both artifacts are part of the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s vast archival holding, currently on display in the Museum of Tolerance.
