Comparisons Between NY Governor Cuomo and Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Joseph Stalin Rejected by Simon Wiesenthal Center

February 5, 2013

The Simon Wiesenthal Center today rejected comparisons made between New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Joseph Stalin during New York's gun control debate.

“We do a great disservice to the memory of the Holocaust when we compare Andrew Cuomo to Adolf Hitler. All that does is trivialize history’s greatest crime,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier, Founder and Dean of the Wiesenthal Center

“Whatever disagreement there may be on either side of the aisle about gun control, comparing Governor Cuomo to Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, crosses the line and is beyond the pale,” he added.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS, the Council of Europe and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
