Wiesenthal Centre to President of Colombia: "We commend Suspension of Hitler Birthday Rally in Medellin"

In a letter to Colombian President Santos, Simon Wiesenthal Center officials - Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations and Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representative for Latin America - lauded the Colombian people, its leaders and citizens of Medellín, who have banned a neo-Nazi group.The so-called 'Third Force' had planned a 20 April. 129th anniversary of the birth of Adolf Hitler.

The letter urged the President to take measures, even though the rally was stopped, "to investigate not only the neo -Nazi organizers and sympathizers in the context of Colombian anti-discrimination and anti - racist legal provisions, and especially expose the identity of the anonymous Nazi guest who was to keynote the event " Center

"Mr. President, we look forward to discussing this matter with you next week in Lima,Peru at the Presidential Summit of the Americas. We will present for your consideration, a series of Wiesenthal Center projects to contain incitement to hate and violence adaptable to Latin American needs," concluded Samuels and Gelblung.

El Centro Wiesenthal al Presidente de Colombia: "Elogiamos la reacción de la sociedad colombiana rechazando un homenaje a Hitler en Medellín"

En una carta al Presidente de la República de Colombia, Sr. Juan Manuel Santos, el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales y el Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representante para América Latina, funcionarios del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, elogiaron al pueblo colombiano, a sus líderes y a los ciudadanos de Medellín, quienes con su reacción han evitado la realización de un acto neo nazi, convocado por un grupo denominado Tercera Fuerza, para conmemorar el próximo 20 de abril el 129* aniversario del nacimiento de Adolf Hitler.

No obstante, la carta insta al Presidente a tomar medidas "para investigar no sólo a los organizadores y simpatizantes neonazis en el contexto de las disposiciones legales colombianas antidiscriminatorias y antirracistas, sino también y muy especialmente, a exponer la identidad del invitado anónimo que iba a disertar durante el fallido evento."

Señor Presidente, "esperamos discutir este asunto con usted la próxima semana en en la Cumbre Presidencial de las Américas en Lima, Perú, donde concurriremos en nuestro caracter de Organización No Gubernamental acreditada ante la Organización de Estados Americanos...Presentaremos una serie de proyectos del Centro Simon Wiesenthal adaptables a las necesidades de América Latina, cuyo propósito abarca la contención al odio y a la violencia", concluyeron Samuels y Gelblung
