Wiesenthal Centre Aghast at Peruvian Political Language Infected by Antisemitism

January 26, 2021

Buenos Aires and Paris – Daniel Abugattás (pictured below) – a Congressional Candidate in Peru's upcoming election – has repeatedly discredited Presidential candidate, Julio Guzmán, in a language of antisemitism

Abugattas affirmed about Guzmán – diagnosed with Covid 19 – that he will infect the virus and create a neo-Nazi mutation: "Beware of the merciless killer strain. They should send him to Israel to be with his fellows."

The Centre's Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, stated "May Peru be free of the virus and its political dialogue be cleansed from antisemitism, a parallel plague."

Ariel Gelblung, Director for Latin America, added that “we emphasize that the Peruvian civil society, including Abugattás' own party, repudiated the use of expressly anti-Semitic speech. Peruvians gave a civility lesson by taking for granted that a democracy debates ideas and there should be no room for grievances of this kind."
