The Simon Wiesenthal Center today repudiated the United Nations Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council for bringing forth resolutions critical of Israeli actions in Gaza.

“Why has there never been a Security Council resolution condemning the rocket attacks launched against Sderot for 2 1/2 years against defenseless civilians,” asked Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.  “The answer is simple - the continuous
myopic, biased attitude only directed at Israel by UN agencies,” he added. “Further it is a mockery of human rights to once again witness the UN giving a free moral pass to Hamas and other terrorists in Gaza as they rain down rockets on Israeli children, their homes and schools,” he said.

“We urge the United States to veto the resolution and we call on presidential candidates from both parties to condemn the continued vilification and dual standard directed against Israel by the United Nations,” Hier concluded.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS and the Council of Europe.
