Wiesenthal Center Urges University of Chile Rector to Nullify BDS Resolution

| "North American and European BDS Bigotry Must be Prevented from Importing its Culture of Hate to the Universities of Latin America" The University of Chile Law Faculty Student Union has passed a BDS Movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) resolution to prohibit any interaction with the State of Israel or its citizens. The Simon Wiesenthal Center urged the University's Rector, Ennio Vivaldi Véjar  (pictured), to nullify this resolution as closer to the Inquisition than an institution that claims to oppose discrimination and encourage international dialogue."'Canada, Great Britain, the United States and the City of Paris have each passed legislation against BDS viewing it as a contributory factor to anti-Semitism and incitement to violence against Jews in their jurisdiction...Uniformed BDS squads in France fill there trolleys with kosher products on supermarket shelves, rush past terrified cashiers to burn these goods once outside...French Jews are reminded of the same behaviour under Nazi occupation...BDS is now prosecuted for religious discrimination," noted Dr. Shimon Samuels, the Center's Director for International Relations "A boycott falsely accusing the State of Israel of Apartheid, in fact, is practising Apartheid against Israel and its Jewish and non-Jewish supporters...Maintaining this resolution would presage a multiplier closing University ties at the whim of individual or group prejudices based upon nationality, race, religion or gender - an unthinkable fate for any campus, but especially for a Law Faculty," added Dr. Ariel Gelblung, the Center's Latin American Representative. El Centro Simon Wiesenthal instó al Rector de la Universidad a dejar sin efecto tal resolución identificada más con los tiempos de la Inquisición que con una institución que proclama oponerse a la discriminación y alentar la pluralidad de ideas. “'Canadá, Gran Bretaña, Estados Unidos y la Alcaldía de París, han aprobado legislación contra el BDS identificándolo como un factor que contribuye al antisemitismo y la incitación a la violencia contra los judíos de sus respectivas jurisdicciones. Escuadrones uniformados del BDS en Francia llenan los carritos en los supermercados con productos kosher, y pasan embistiendo a los aterrorizados cajeros para luego quemar estas mercaderías en la calle, logrando que los judíos franceses revivan lo sufrido bajo la ocupación nazi. Este comprotamiento le valió al BDS el procesamiento por discriminación religiosa", señaló Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones internacionales del Centro. “Quienes sostienen el boicot acusando falsamente al Estado de Israel de instalar un sistema de Apartheid, están proponiendo combatirlo con otro Apartheid contra Israel y sus simpatizantes tanto judíos como no judíos. Sostener esta medida puede presagiar un creciente y caprichoso prejuicio hacia individuos o grupos a causa de su nacionalidad, raza, religión o género – impensable destino para cualquier campus, pero sobre todo, para una Facultad de Derecho”, agregó el Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representante del Centro para América Latina "Debe evitarse que el fanatismo del BDS norteamericano y europeo importe su cultura de odio a las universidades de Latinoamérica”, concluyeron los funcionarios del Centro.
