Leaders of the Simon Wiesenthal Center urged President Obama to veto a one-sided anti-Israel resolution that has reportedly been resubmitted to the UN Security Council by Malaysia, Venezuela, and Senegal. “This is the wrong signal at the wrong time. President Obama should heed the decision of Egypt, the largest Arab nation in the world, and a key stakeholder in the Middle East, which withdrew this resolution only yesterday," said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, Founder and dean and Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish Human Rights NGO. “Such a draconian move at the 11:59 mark of his presidency would overturn decades of US policy in the region and fly in the face of his own administration’s previous veto of a similar resolution. Such a move will only succeed in scuttling flickering hopes for a peaceful two-state solution, embolden extremists and terrorists, and needlessly further complicate President-elect Trump’s future peace efforts. “We also commend President-elect Trump for urging President Obama to veto of this anti-Israel resolution," Center officials concluded.
