Wiesenthal Center: UN Human Rights Chief Gets Everything Wrong on Gaza

May 18, 2018

On the heels of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s vote today to investigate Israel for, “the disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force by thethe Simon Wiesenthal Center is denouncing the UN High Commissioner for Human >Rights, Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, for wrongly blaming Israel for what they call Hamas-directed attempts to breach the Jewish state’s borders, co-mingling terrorists and civilian human shields.

“The United Nations human rights chief has willfully gotten it all wrong when it comes to Gaza,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier, Founder and Dean of the Wiesenthal Center and Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the Center’s Director of Global Social Action. Blaming Israel for disportionality instead of indicting Hamas for its bald-faced manipulation of the Palestinian population in Gaza to maximize casualties for the last 8 weeks,” they added.

Rabbis Hier and Cooper also said, “Al-Hussein blames Israeli ‘occupation". Perhaps he didn’t get the memo that Israel left Gaza unilaterally years ago. Gaza today is occupied by a terrorist organization. Instead of Investigating Israel, the UN should investigate why UNRWA schools let students out to encourage them to go into harm’s way at the border, why UNRWA teachers inculcate Palestinian children with hatred of Israel, denying Israel’s very right to exist!”
