Wiesenthal Center to the President of Uruguay: "Montevideo State Reception to Iran Foreign Minister Encourages Teheran Sponsored Terror and Holocaust Denial in the Americas"

In a letter to the President of Uruguay, Dr. Tabaré Vazquez, Wiesenthal Center´s officials expressed deep concern regarding the State reception granted to the Foreign Minister of Iran in Montevideo today.

Drs. Shimon Samuels and Ariel Gelblung, respectively Director for International Relations and Representative for Latin America of the Center argued that "Uruguay is betraying its membership in the Organization of American States by receiving a high official of the state implicated in the financing,planning and execution of the terrorist attacks of 1992 against the Embassy of Israel and 1994 against the AMIA Jewish Center,both in Buenos Aires, which together left 114 dead and over 400 wounded. Iran still shelters the accused,in contempt of INTERPOL's red notice arrest warrants and refuses to cooperate with the Argentine judicial investigation."

"Moreover, Tehran is seeding Hizbollah terrorist sleepers across the Americas and the Caribbean, from the Argentine/Paraguay/Brazil Triple Frontier region in the south to Venezuela and Surinam in the north"

The letter continued, "Mr.President, the Jewish world and its Christian friends are outraged that Uruguay - a center for Holocaust education - is receiving a high official of the one country that practices a policy of Holocaust denial, today, on the Jewish people's Holocaust Commemoration Day", adding, "Needless to say, Iran misses no opportunity to publicly affirm in international fora, its genocidal intent to wipe Israel,the Jewish state from the map"

"Mr. President, the objective of this welcome, can only be redeemed by a public demand from Uruguay that Iran desist from its terror sponsorship and its Holocaust obscenity. The only proof of such intent will be a statement that Tehran will submit its five indicted nationals to a trial in Argentina for the AMIA massacre", concluded Samuels and Gelblung.

El Centro Wiesenthal al Presidente de Uruguay: "Recibir como visita de Estado en Montevideo al Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Irán alienta a Teherán a auspiciar el terror y la negación del Holocausto en las Américas"

En una carta al Presidente de Uruguay, Dr. Tabaré Vázquez, funcionarios del Centro Wiesenthal expresaron su profunda preocupación por la recepción de Estado otorgada hoy al Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Irán en Montevideo.

Los Dres. Shimon Samuels y Ariel Gelblung, respectivamente Director de Relaciones Internacionales y Representante para América Latina del Centro, argumentaron que "Uruguay está traicionando su membresía en la Organización de Estados Americanos al recibir un alto funcionario del estado implicado en la financiación, planificación y ejecución de los ataques terroristas de 1992 contra la Embajada de Israel y 1994 contra la mutual judía AMIA, ambos en Buenos Aires, que en conjunto dejaron 114 muertos y más de 400 heridos. Irán aún alberga a los acusados, en desacato a las cédulas rojas de INTERPOL y se niega a cooperar con la investigación judicial argentina..Además, Teherán está sembrando de agentes terroristas durmientes de Hezbollah las Américas y el Caribe, desde la región de la Triple Frontera Argentina, Paraguay y Brasil en el sur hasta Venezuela y Surinam en el norte".

La carta continuó: "Sr. Presidente, el mundo judío y sus amigos cristianos están indignados de que Uruguay, un centro de educación sobre el Holocausto, reciba a un alto funcionario del único país que practica una política de negación del mismo, hoy, cuando el pueblo judío conmemora el Día del Holocausto y el Heroísmo", y agregó: "No hace falta decir que Irán no pierde oportunidad de afirmar públicamente en foros internacionales, su intento genocida de borrar del mapa a Israel, el estado judío ".

"Sr. Presidente, el objetivo de esta bienvenida, solo puede ser redimido por una exigencia pública de Uruguay de que Irán desista de su patrocinio terrorista y su obscenidad del Holocausto. La única prueba de tal intención será una declaración de que Teherán entregará a los cinco acusados nacionales a un juicio en Argentina por la masacre de la AMIA ", concluyeron Samuels y Gelblung
