WIESENTHAL CENTER STATEMENT ON IRAN PRESIDENT’S DENIAL OF THE HOLOCAUST

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s latest statement calling the Holocaust a "myth" used by Europeans to create a Jewish state in the heart of the Islamic world demands an immediate response from the international community. Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center said: "In view of the fact that the UN General Assembly will be commemorating the Holocaust on January 27, it behooves them to immediately censure the Iranian leader for this outrage and his previous calls for genocide against the Jewish State."

To date, only the Security Council has condemned the Iranian leader's genocidal threats

Rabbi Hier continued:

Further, we call upon the European Union to declare Ahmedinejad persona non grata in all European capitals. Europeans must take the lead in ensuring that the Iranian regime’s genocidal hate has specific consequences.

This is not just about the Holocaust. We live in a dangerous world of fanaticism where terrorists blow themselves up and think that they have earned a place at G-d’s table; where delusional ideas, once the exclusive domain of the lunatic fringe are now being spouted by presidents and diplomats.

Through his remarks, President Ahmadinejad firms up his position as the world’s chief cheerleader of such fanaticism.

Declaración del Centro Simon Wiesenthal ante la negación del Holocausto por parte del presidente de Irán

Las últimas manifestaciones del presidente iraní Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, en las cuales califica el Holocausto como un "mito" utilizado por los europeos para crear un estado judío en el corazón del mundo islámico demandan una respuesta inmediata de parte de la comunidad internacional. El Rabino Marvin Hier, fundador y decano del Centro Wiesenthal, señaló: "Dado que la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas conmemorará el Holocausto el 27 de enero, corresponde que ellos condenen de inmediato al lider iraní por este ultraje, y tambén por su anterior proclama genocida contra el estado judío".

Hasta la fecha, sólo el Consejo de Seguridad ha condenado las amenazas genocidas del líder iraní.

"Convocamos la Unión Europea a declarar persona no grata a Ahmadinejad en todas las capitales del continente. Los europeos deben asumir el liderazgo para asegurar que el odio genocida del régimen iraní sea combatido. No se trata tan sólo del Holocausto. Vivimos en un mundo peligroso, en el que terroristas fanáticos se hacen explotar y creen que así ganan un lugar en la mesa de D’s. Un mundo en el cual ideas alucinadas, que en el pasado sólo provenían de extremistas lunáticos, surgen ahora de boca de presidentes y diplomáticos. Con sus declaraciones, el presidente Ahmadinejad se reafirma en el lugar de lider mundial de semejante fanatismo.

Sergio Widder, representante para América Latina del Centro Wiesenthal, convocó al presidente Néstor Kirchner a "liderar una protesta regional contra Irán, tal como fuera propuesto por el gobierno argentino en el marco de la reciente Cumbre de las Américas".
