WIESENTHAL CENTER SLAMS CHAVEZ’ HITLER COMPARISON

The Simon Wiesenthal Center today condemned Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for  denouncing Israel’s actions in Lebanon as a “genocide” as bad or worse than those committed by Hitler. Chavez made these remarks at a press briefing during his six day trip to China. He also stated that Israel has “fascist attitudes” and that it has “lost its mind.” and that should be brought before an international war crimes tribunal.

“The Jewish State doesn’t need lectures from a demagogue who increasingly parrots soundbites by Iranian President Ahmadinejad,” said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Wiesenthal Center. “Israel did everything to minimize civilian casualties while Hezbollah cynically did everything in its power to maximize civilian casualtieson both sides of the Lebanon-Israel border,” he continued.

Rabbi Cooper also added that Chavez’ remarks come on the heels of the recent exhibition of Holocaust cartoons in Iran.

EL CENTRO WIESENTHAL CONDENA LA COMPARACION DE ISRAEL CON HITLER EFECTUADA POR CHAVEZ

El Centro Simón Wiesenthal condenó hoy las declaraciones del presidente venezolano Hugo Chavez, quien calificó las acciones de Israel en el Líbano como un “genocidio tan tremendo o peor” que el cometido por Hitler. Chavez efectuó estas declaraciones duranteuna conferencia de prensa en el marco de su visita a China. El presidente de Venezuela agregó que Israel tiene “actitudes fascistas” y que ha “perdido la razón”, y que debería ser llevado ante un tribunal internacional por crímenes de guerra.
 
“El Estado judío no necesita lecciones de parte de un demagogo que repite los dichos del Presidente de Iran Ahmadinejad”, dijo el rabino Abraham Cooper, decano adjunto del Centro Wiesenthal. “Israel hizo todo lo posible para minimizar el número de las víctimas civiles, mientras que Hezbollah, por el contrario, intentó maximizar el número de víctimas civiles en ambos lados de la frontera entre el Libano e Israel”, agregó.
 
Cooper añadió que las observaciones de Chavez se suman a una escalada que incluye la reciente exhibición de caricaturas sobre el Holocausto  aparecidas en Irán.
