“Defense of Iran’s Nuclear Program is Tantamount to Complicity in its Genocidal Intent”

The Simon Wiesenthal Center slammed Nicaragua’s President Daniel Ortega, who stated that “the world is attacking one country, Iran, for its pacific nuclear program; instead, we should focus on another country, Israel, and demand that it destroy its nuclear arsenal; that would be a move towards world peace.” Ortega made this comment during the inauguration of his third Presidential term, and in presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

“Ortega defends a tyrant who has repeatedly threatened Israel with his calls to wipe it off the map. Iran’s nuclear plan is genocidal. By defending it, Ortega is taking side as an accomplice,” stated Sergio Widder (Director for Latin America).

“Indeed it is Iran – not Israel – that is threatening the Americas, by infiltration, funding Hizbollah terror cells throughout Latin America and their Shahab-3 missile site, in construction on the Venezuelan coast, putting the entire Caribbean and Central America in their killbox,” argued Dr. Shimon Samuels (its Director for International Relations).

The Center officials had requested that Ahmadinejad’s hosts show Latin America solidarity, by pressing their guest to honor Argentina’s extradition order to bring to justice the Iranians implicated in the AMIA Jewish Center terrorist attack.

“La defensa del programa nuclear iraní equivale a complicidad con su voluntad genocida”

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal criticó de manera enérgica los dichos del presidente de Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, quien manifestó que “el mundo está atacando a un país, Irán, debido a su programa nuclear pacífico. Deberíamos prestar atención a otro país, Israel, y requerir que destruya su arsenal nuclear; ese sería un paso para lograr la paz mundial”. Ortega hizo estos comentarios durante la asunción de su tercer mandato presidencial, en presencia del presidente iraní Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

“Ortega defiende a un tirano que ha amenazado de manera reiterada a Israel con sus llamamientos para borrarlo del mapa. El programa nuclear iraní tiene intenciones genocidas. Al defenderlo, Ortega toma partido como cómplice,” manifestó Sergio Widder (Director para América Latina del Centro).

“De hecho, es Irán – no Israel – quien está amenazando las Américas por medio de la infiltración, el apoyo financiero a células terroristas de Hezbollah en toda Latinoamérica, y su plataforma para misiles Shahab-3, actualmente en construcción en la costa venezolana, que pone a todo el Caribe y Centroamérica dentro de su rango de alcance mortífero”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal).

Los directivos del Centro habían solicitado a los anfitriones de Ahmadinejad en la región que, en el marco de la solidaridad latinoamericana, exigieran a su huésped que Irán cumpla con los pedidos de extradición argentinos para que los sospechosos por el ataque terrorista contra la AMIA sean entregados a la justicia.
