UN General Assembly Votes on Anti-Israel Resolutions including Disavowing Ties to Jerusalem
“The Jewish people never needed the UN to define our relationship to Jerusalem. It has been at the heart of our identity for 3,000 years. For the last 69 years it has been the capital of the Jewish state. Israel’s connection to Jerusalem is just as profound as the Muslim world’s connection to Mecca, and dates back before the time than most of the 151 nations existed,” declared Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, Dean and Founder and Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish human rights organization with NGO status at the UN.
“Where was the UN from 1948-67, when Jordan barred the Jewish people any access to their Holy sites in Jerusalem. It did nothing when the Jordanians destroyed every synagogue in the Old City,” Hier and Cooper said. “Thank G-d, since 1967, Israel has ensured access to religious sites of Christians and Muslims, as well as Jews. The 151 nations should be thanking Israel, not slandering it,” they added.
“This outrage disqualifies the UN from any role in any future peace talks and presents an opportunity for President Trump to send a strong signal to the hypocrites at the UN and European Union by announcing that he’s immediately moving the US embassy to Jerusalem,” Wiesenthal Center officials concluded.
