Wiesenthal Center Insists: "Argentine Judges Must Not Grant Impunity to Alleged Neo-Nazis for Racist Crimes"

From 2013 to 2016 the seaside resort of Mar del Plata was reportedly terrorized by a neo-Nazi band, notorious for its bigoted and intolerant messages.They came to be known as "The Hunters".

Their apparent activities ranged from vandalizing and attacking private property of their "race enemies" and physical assault.

The current Prosecutor of the Mar del Plata District Court, Juan Manuel Pettigiani, has sought to avoid a public trial by withdrawing the accusations of illicit association and violation of the anti-discrimination jurisprudence.

According to Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representative of the Wiesenthal Center for Latin America: "The criteria of the Prosecutor must be rejected as they de-ideologize the nature of the case. The Judges cannot be complicit in this attempt to transform an organized neo-Nazi group allegedly guilty of racist crimes into a group of harmless misfits."

Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Center, related the case to the recent discovery of a cache of Nazi memorabilia, confiscated by the Argentine authorities as instruments of incitement: "Argentina justice must be consistent. The pedagogical impact of the confiscation can not now be undermined by an apparently lax Prosecutor. The Judges of the District Court must allow the proceedings so that the victims and their evidence be publicly heard."

El Centro Wiesenthal insta a los jueces a evitar la impunidad por crímenes racistas perpetrados por neonazis

Buenos Aires, 26 de junio de 2017

Entre 2013 y 2016 la ciudad balnearia de Mar del Plata vivió intranquila por la acción de una banda declaradamente neo nazi, que organizadamente y con la expresa intención de dejar un mensaje discriminatorio e intolerante salían a efectuar lo autodenominaban “cacerías”.

Estas actividades iban desde vandalizar y atacar propiedad privada hasta ocasionar daños a personas eligiendo sus objetivos con criterios racistas, xenófobos y manifiestamente discriminatorios.

El actual fiscal ante el Tribunal Oral en lo Federal de Mar del Plata, Juan Manuel Pettigiani, pretende evitar el juicio oral retirando las acusaciones por asociación ilícita y las relacionadas con la ley antidiscriminatoria.

Según el Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representante del Centro Wiesenthal para America Latina: “el criterio del fiscal debe ser rechazado porque vacía de contenido ideológico el caso. Los Jueces no pueden ser cómplices de este intento de transformar a un grupo neonazi organizado para cometer delitos racistas en un grupo de inadaptados inofensivos”.

Por su parte, el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro relacionó el caso con los recientes hallazgos de artículos nazis, confiscados por las autoridades como instrumentos de incitación: “La justicia argentina debe ser consistente… el impacto pedagógico de la confiscación no debe ser menoscabado por un aparente fiscal complaciente. .. los jueces del Tribunal Oral Federal de Mar del Plata deben disponer que se escuche públicamente a las víctimas, se produzcan todo tipo de pruebas y se resuelva en consecuencia.”
