Wiesenthal Center Honors Leslie Moonves, Chairman/CEO of CBS Corporation

The Simon Wiesenthal Center honored Leslie Moonves, Chairman and CEO of CBS Corporation with its 2018 Humanitarian Award. Funds raised help support the work of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Museum of Tolerance.
The Dinner was chaired by Bob Bakish, Jon Feltheimer, Jim Gianopulos, Bob Iger, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Richard Lovett, Ron Meyer, Ted Sarandos, Kevin Tsujihara, and Tony Vinciquerra.
The evening was emceed by comedian James Corden, the host of The Late, Late Show who thanked Moonves for having enough faith in him to bring him to LA from the UK.
In his remarks, Moonves praised the work of the Wiesenthal Center as essential in the current global climate of racism, anti-Semitism, and intolerance. He also talked about his recent visit to the Museum of Tolerance, where he was reminded of how the populist appeal of Hitler helped his rise to power that led to the spread of Nazism and the systematic murder of six million Jews. “Could such a thing happen now?" Moonves asked. “A few years ago, I might have said no. But today, with authoritarian regimes gaining traction just about everywhere around the world… well, I’m just not sure,” he added. In Jeffrey Katzenberg’s introduction to Moonves, he revealed that the honoree was, in fact, a great-nephew of Israel’s first President, David Ben-Gurion.
Coincidentally, Ben-Gurion was the posthumous recipient of the Center’s Medal of Valor, which was accepted by his grandson, Alon Ben-Gurion. Also receiving a Medal was Canadian human rights activist, Raheel Raza.
Joining Moonves and his wife Julie Chen at the National Tribute Dinner were: Gary Barber, Jerry Bruckheimer, Lynda Carter, Mark Feuerstein, Jermaine Fowler, Jim Gianopulos, Brian Grazer, Andrew Gumpert, Chuck Lorre, Ron Meyer, Pat Riley, Cal Ripken Jr., Chris Silberman, Burt Sugarman and Mary Hart, and Kevin Tsujihara.
