The Simon Wiesenthal Center lambasted an article written by Argentine Congresswoman Araceli Ferreira about her trip to the Palestinian territories together with her colleagues of the Parliamentary group “Friends of Palestine” as a Holocaust-distortion propaganda libel.
Recalling her trip to Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jericho, and regretting the missing opportunity to visit Gaza, Ferreira portraits a demonized profile of Israel, and concludes by saying that “as we are confronting a new Holocaust, this time against the Palestinians, we should speak up to demand the end of the abuses committed by the Israeli army even while I am writing these lines. “Two months ago, our Center denounced the activities of this parliamentary group as more inclined to justify Hamas rather than promoting peace. This chronicle only confirms what we had said. Has this Parliamentary group made any contacts with the Israeli pro-peace groups? It doesn’t look so. The sole purpose is to demonize Israel and distort the significance of the Holocaust”, said Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center (see http://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=lsKWLbPJLnF&b=4441467&ct=14223235#.VJnYUV4D0A).
“As a member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, Holocaust education is included at school’s curricula in Argentina. We now realize that those educational resources should also be available for members of Congress who are either deliberately distorting history or simply ignoring it. Either way is shameful”, added Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.
“The members of the Friends of Palestine Parliamentary Group have to decide whether they are ready to promote dialogue and peace, or simply rebrand their group as ‘Holocaust deniers and anti-Israel hatemongers’”, concluded the Center’s officials.

El Centro Wiesenthal expone un artículo calumnioso de una diputada argentina que distorsiona el Holocausto

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal denunció una crónica de la diputada argentina Araceli Ferreira en la que relata su viaje a los territorios palestinos junto con sus colegas del grupo parlamentario “Amigos de Palestina” como un libelo propagandístico que distorsiona el Holocausto.
Al rememorar su viaje a Ramala, Belén, Jericó (y lamentando no haber podido ir a Gaza), Ferreira elabora un retrato que demoniza a Israel y concluye diciendo que “frente a un nuevo Holocausto, ahora contra palestinos, hay que levantar la voz indignada contra las violaciones a los derechos humanos que cotidianamente comete el ejército israelí, incluso mientras escribo estas líneas” (ver http://cambio21.com.ar/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4590:cronica-de-una-diputada-argentina-en-palestina&catid=7:politica&Itemid=11)
“Hace dos meses, nuestro Centro denunció las actividades de este grupo parlamentario como más orientadas a justificar a Hamas que a promover la paz. Esta crónica confirma lo que habíamos dicho. ¿Hubo interés por parte de este grupo parlamentario de establecer vínculos con grupos pacifistas israelíes? No parece ser el caso. El único propósito es demonizar a Israel y ofuscar la historicidad del Holocausto”, manifestó el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro (ver http://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=lsKWLbPJLnF&b=4441467&ct=14223235#.VJnYUV4D0A).
“Como miembro de la Alianza Internacional para la Memoria del Holocausto (IHRA), la enseñanza del Holocausto forma parte de los programas escolares en Argentina. Vemos ahora que esos recursos educativos deberían también estar a disposición para algunos miembros del Congreso Nacional, que o bien distorsionan la historia de manera deliberada, o bien la ignoran. Cualquiera fuese el caso, es vergonzoso”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director para América Latina del Centro.
“Los integrantes del Grupo Parlamentario de Amistad con Palestina deberían decidir si están dispuestos a trabajar a favor del diálogo y la paz o si directamente cambian el nombre de su grupo por el de ‘Parlamentarios falsificadores del Holocausto y hostiles a Israel’”, concluyeron los directivos del Centro.
