The Simon Wiesenthal Center denounced anti-Semitic language in Contexto magazine website, based in the Argentine province of Tucuman.

In a letter to its Director Tomás Luciani, Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center) and Sergio Widder (Latin American Director), charged that “the repeated use of Holocaust-language to describe the administration of Governor José Alperovich and his wife, Senator Beatriz Rojkes de Alperovich – both Jewish – was an ethnic/religious slur”.

The Center pointed to comparisons between the Governor and Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. These include libelous characterizations of greed and obsession with money and gold (see attachment). Besides the articles produced by the website itself, there are countless anti-Semitic comments by the readers, uncontrolled by the editor/webmaster.

“Our Center champions freedom of expression and the right to criticize government officials and policy. Nevertheless, direct stereotyping and ad hominem racism of this nature can only encourage violence,” argued Samuels.

“Indeed this discourse puts the entire Jewish community of Tucuman at risk. Its anti-Semitic incitement renders Contexto magazine complicit in sharing responsibility for any eventual assault on Jewish institutions or individuals in the province,” added Widder.

“We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community of Tucuman, and urge Mr. Luciani to publically apologize for the anti-Jewish incitement on his magazine website and announce that access to third parties who wish to use it as a platform for hate is henceforth banned. We will continue to monitor Contexto and sights to which it is link,” concluded Samuels and Widder.

El Centro Wiesenthal denuncia lenguaje antisemita en publicación tucumana: “la incitación al odio pone en riesgo a las comunidades judías locales”

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal denunció el lenguaje antisemita en la publicación electrónica Contexto, de la provincia de Tucumán.

En una carta a Tomás Luciani, director de la publicación, el Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal) y Sergio Widder (Director para América Latina), manifestaron que “la utilización del lenguaje ligado al Holocausto para referirse a la administración del gobernador de Tucumán, José Alperovich, y a su esposa, la Senadora Beatriz Rojkes de Alperovich, ambos judíos”, constituye una injuria étnico-religiosa.

El Centro refirió a las comparaciones entre el gobernador tucumano y el ministro de propaganda nazi Joseph Goebbels. Esto incluye caracterizaciones difamatorias vinculadas a codicia y obsesión con el oro y el dinero (ver archivo adjunto). Además de los materiales propios de la publicación, abundan los comentarios antisemitas de lectores, sin ninguna moderación por parte del editor-webmaster.

“Nuestro Centro defiende la libertad de expresión y el derecho a criticar a los funcionarios y políticas gubernamentales. Sin embargo, la apelación directa a estereotipos antisemitas y el racismo ad hominem, sólo estimulan la violencia”, señaló Samuels.

“Este discurso pone en riesgo a la comunidad judía de Tucuman. Su incitación antisemita coloca a la revista Contexto como cómplice y co-responsable por cualquier eventual agresión contra las instituciones judías o sus miembros”, agregó Widder.

“Nos solidarizamos con la comunidad judía de Tucumán y urgimos al Sr. Luciani a disculparse públicamente por la incitación antijudía en su sitio web y a que impida la utilización del mismo por parte de terceros que quieran aprovecharlo como plataforma para el odio”, concluyeron Samuels y Widder.
