Wiesenthal Center convinces Argentine Party Leader to Drop Mayoral Candidacy of Adolf Eichmann's Daughter-in-Law

Adolf Eichmann's daughter-in-law, Carmen Beatriz Bretin Linderman, withdrew her candidacy as Mayoral candidate for Garupa, Argentina, following the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Latin American Representative, Dr. Ariel Gelblung's live primetime television dialogue with Bretin's Party leader, Eng. Ramon Puerta.

Gelblung urged Puerta to, Take all precautions to ensure the resignation of this inappropriate candidate."


Bretin had already provoked Puerta last July, in claiming that "all books and films on Adolf Eichmann" - whom she fondly called 'Grandpa' - "were authored by Jews". This led him to warn her that he would not support candidates who were propagating anti-democratic
ideologies.

However, four days before the election, Bretin not only persisted with her candidacy, but again publicly advocated her Nazi ideology.

Upon receiving a notarized copy of her resignation, the Center's Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, commended the disqualification, recalling the Center's 2010 Buenos Aires conference, "Eichmann in Argentina: The Lessons Fifty Years Later", he stated, "That Eichmann has left this inheritance is a shock, but the result demonstrates that Argentina's road from dictatorship to democracy remains secure."
