Wiesenthal Center Condemns Abuse of Buenos Aires Book Fair for Propaganda
Campaign Against the State of Israel

The Simon Wiesenthal Center wrote to the President of Fundación El Libro (The Book Foundation), Horacio García, protesting the distorted model of the antiterrorist security fence that separates the State of Israel from the Palestinian Authority, that dominated the stand “El libro árabe” (“The Arab Book”) at the 2008 Buenos Aires Book Fair.

The letter, signed by Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center) and Sergio Widder (Latin American Representative), states that “this political incitement apparently continues a campaign begun at the 2007 Fair, when a conference organized by the Argentine Islamic Organization together with radical agitator Luis D’Elía. This had ended in a scandal, when these same demonstrators attempted an escalation from verbal to physical violence”.

The letter continues: “That behaviour, and now the ‘wall exhibit’ share the same goal: to delegitimize the State of Israel and to whitewash the very terrorist groups that bombed the AMIA and necessitated the construction of the desfensive barrier, i.e. Hizbollah and Hamas”.

“Once again, it is unconscionable that the prestige of the Book Fair be hijacked to desecrate the memory of victims of fundamentalist terrorism. We urge the organizers of this Fair to repudiate those abusers who promote an agenda aimed at legitimizing terror”, Samuels and Widder concluded.
