Wiesenthal Center Condemns Desecration of Christian and Muslim Graves in Jaffa and Joseph's Tomb in Nablus

October 9, 2011

"It is difficult to fathom more despicable hate crimes committed during the High Holy Day period in Israel and the Palestinian Territories," lamented Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper. "First an arson attack on a Mosque, then desecration of Joseph's Tomb, then attacks against the dignity of Christian and Muslim dead and a Molotov cocktail thrown at a Synagogue in Jaffa. We trust that the Israeli authorities will apprehend any of their citizens, Jew, Muslim or Christian who committed these outrages."

The Simon Wiesenthal Center joins the political leaders of Israel and the entire House of Israel in condemning these outrages against G-d and Man. "We also call on the Palestinian Authority to apprehend those responsible for the latest desecration of the Jewish Holy site under its jurisdiction. Until now, the PA has shown contempt and indifference for Jewish Holy sites under its jurisdiction," Hier and Cooper concluded.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS, the Council of Europe and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
