The Simon Wiesenthal Centre was accredited in consultative status at the 47th General Assembly of the 35 member-state Organization of American States (OAS) in Cancún, México.

In private meetings with OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro and his staff, the Centre's Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, and Latin American Representative Dr. Ariel Gelblung, described the Center's Digital Terrorism and Hate Project findings and presented the Center´s program against racism in sports. Almagro instructed his staff to work closely with the Center and consider granting OAS sponsorship for these projects in Latin America.

Much of the Assembly's attention focused on the deteriorating situation in Venezuela, as the Hemisphere's Foreign Ministers sought to adopt measures decrying the violence and human rights violations, short of direct intervention.

The Center's program against Racism in Sports was enthusiastically received by the authorities of CONAPRED MEXICO, the national organization to combat discrimination, immediately planning a common work agenda with the Center´s representatives.

The Center also met with Israel Ambassador to Mexico, Yonatan Peled, who will be sponsoring the Center's exhibition “People, Book, Land” at a convenient date in Mexico City.

Samuels and Gelblung highlighted "the importance of Latin American friendship to Israel and the Jewish people, especially in view of Iranian infiltration in the Venezuelan-led ALBA bloc countries and Hizbollah terrorist sleeper cells across the continent and the Carribean"

El Centro Wiesenthal en la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA)

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal, en su carácter de Organismo Consultivo, participó en la 47ª Asamblea General de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA), desarrollada en Cancún, México.

En reuniones privadas con el Secretario General de la OEA, Luis Almagro y su gabinete, el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro y el Representante para América Latina, Dr. Ariel Gelblung, describieron los hallazgos del Proyecto de Terrorismo y Odio Digital y presentaron el Programa del Centro contra el Racismo en el Deporte. Almagro instruyó a su personal a trabajar en estrecha colaboración con el Centro y considerar otorgar el patrocinio de la OEA a estos proyectos en América Latina.

Gran parte de la atención de la Asamblea se centró en el deterioro de la situación en Venezuela, ya que los Ministros de Relaciones Exteriores del Hemisferio trataron de adoptar medidas que hagan decrecer la violencia y los atropellos a los derechos humanos, evitando una intervención directa.

El programa del Centro contra el Racismo en el Deporte fue recibido con entusiasmo por las autoridades de CONAPRED MEXICO, la Organización Nacional de Lucha contra la Discriminación, planificando de inmediato una agenda de trabajo común con los representantes del Centro

El Centro también se reunió con el Embajador de Israel en México, Yonatan Peled, quien patrocinará la exposición del Centro "Pueblo, Libro, Tierra" en una fecha conveniente en la Ciudad de México.

Samuels y Gelblung destacaron "la importancia de la amistad latinoamericana con Israel y el pueblo judío, especialmente en vista de la infiltración iraní en los países del bloque del ALBA liderados por Venezuela y las células terroristas dormidas de Hizbollah en todo el continente y en el Caribe"
