Following a Wiesenthal Center protest, National Geographic cable TV Latin America apologized for a poll on its Facebook reading: “Christmas’ Special is coming to Nat Geo… Who do you think responsible for the death of Jesus?”: “Pontius Pilate; The Jewish People; the High Priests”

Guadalupe Lucero, VP Corporate Communications of Fox Latin America, wrote to the Center:

“On behalf of National Geographic Channel in Latin America we sincerely apologize for the publication of a poll that might have unintentionally given place to interpretations, opinions or expressions of intolerance affecting the Jewish community.

This would contradict the mission and spirit of National Geographic worldwide, which focuses on education for diversity through shows questioning our world.

We deeply regret the incident and removed the poll immediately upon learning of the situation. We have also taken appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

El canal Nat Geo se disculpa luego de una protesta del Centro Wiesenthal

Luego de una protesta del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, el canal de cable Nat Geo en español se disculpó por haber publicado en su página de Facebook una encuesta donde se preguntaba: “El especial de Navidad está llegando a Nat Geo… ¿Quién crees que fue el responsable de la muerte de Jesús?: Poncio Pilatos; El pueblo Judío; Los Sumos Sacerdotes”

Guadalupe Lucero, Vicepresidente para Comunicaciones Corporativas de Fox Latin American Channels, envío un e-mail al Centro Wiesenthal señalando:

“En nombre de National Geographic Channel en América Latina expresamos nuestras más sinceras disculpas ante la situación generada por la publicación en el sitio web de cierto contenido en formato de encuesta, el que involuntariamente pudiera haber dado lugar a interpretaciones, opiniones o manifestaciones de intolerancia que pudieran afectar a la comunidad judía.

Dicha situación es completamente contraria a la misión y al espíritu de National Geographic en nuestro país y en el mundo, centrados en educar y brindar contenidos que promueven la diversidad e incentivan la curiosidad, a través de programación que lleva a preguntarnos cuánto sabemos, cómo vemos el mundo que nos rodea y qué nos moviliza.

Lamentamos profundamente el incidente y les comunicamos que habiendo tomado conocimiento de la situación, dicha encuesta ha sido removida en forma inmediata y se han adoptado las medidas necesarias para evitar situaciones similares en el futuro.
