Proposal to isolate Israel by declaring 2014 as ‘UN Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People’ marks Venezuela as the spearhead for Iran and Hizbollah in the Americas.

“Caracas’ invitation to host a UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (UNCEIRPP) special session on 17-18 April, (pictured, Photo: UN) emphasized the continuation of the Chavez successor policy of fostering the continuation of Mid-East extremism in Latin America,” stressed Simon Wiesenthal Center officials Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations) and Sergio Widder (Director for Latin America) in a letter to the OAS Secretary of Multidimensional Security, Adam Blackwell.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center has regularly participated in the UNCEIRPP in Latin America and Europe – most recently in Montevideo, Brussels, Paris and Rome.

“The Caracas meeting apparently excluded civil society in violation of NGO UN credentials, suggesting intentions beyond those in the public declaration,” suggested Sergio Widder.

“This first act of President Nicolás Maduro proclaims that the Chavez policy is to be intensified, not only hostility to Israel, but encouraging Iranian and Hizbollah activity via Venezuela throughout South America,” stated Shimon Samuels.

“The Caracas Declaration does nothing to encourage a peaceful resolution for Palestinians and Israelis, nor does it condemn terrorism or violence. The Caracas proposal to isolate Israel by declaring 2014 as UN Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People will, in fact, reinforce Venezuela’s role as a spearhead for Middle East, Iranian and Hizbollah terrorism in the Americas,” declared Samuels and Widder.

The Center urged that, “Venezuela’s policy in encouraging extremism in the region, be investigated and condemned at the forthcoming OAS General Assembly in Guatemala, in June 2013.”

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal denuncia ante la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA): “La reunión palestina en Caracas indica que el nuevo gobierno continúa fomentando la penetración del extremismo proveniente de Medio Oriente en América Latina”

La propuesta para aislar a Israel a través de la proclamación de 2014 como “Año Internacional de Solidaridad con el Pueblo Palestino” en las Naciones Unidas confirma el rol de Venezuela como punta de lanza para Irán y Hezbollah en las Américas.

“La invitación de Caracas para ser sede de una sesión especial del Comité para el Ejercicio de los Derechos Inalienables del Pueblo Palestino de las Naciones Unidas (UNCEIRPP por sus siglas en inglés) los días 17 y 18 de abril puso de relieve la continuación de la política del sucesor del fallecido presidente venezolano Hugo Chávez de fomentar la penetración del extremismo proveniente de Medio Oriente en América Latina”, señalaron los directivos del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales) y Sergio Widder (Director para América Latina).

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal ha participado regularmente en reuniones del UNCEIRPP en América Latina y en Europa – en los últimos meses en Montevideo, Bruselas, Paris y Roma.

“Aparentemente, la reunión de Caracas dejó afuera a la sociedad civil, violando así las facultades de las ONGs acreditadas ante la ONU; esto parece sugerir intenciones que van más allá de las explicitadas en la declaración pública”, indicó Widder.

“Esta primera acción del presidente Nicolás Maduro demuestra que la política de Chávez será profundizada, no sólo en su hostilidad hacia Israel, sino también en el estímulo a las actividades de Irán y Hezbollah en toda Sudamérica, a través de Venezuela”, manifestó Samuels.

“La Declaración de Caracas no hace nada a favor de una resolución pacífica para palestinos e israelíes, ni tampoco condena el terrorismo o la violencia… La propuesta de Caracas de aislar a Israel declarando 2014 como el ‘Año Internacional de Solidaridad con el Pueblo Palestino’ de las Naciones Unidas fortalecerá el rol de Venezuela como punta de lanza para el terrorismo de Irán y Hezbollah en las Américas”, concluyeron Samuels y Widder.

El Centro urgió a que “se investigue la política de estímulo al extremismo en la región por parte de Venezuela, y se condenen estas prácticas en la próxima Asamblea General de la OEA en Guatemala, en junio de 2013”.
