SWC Slams Venezuela for Supporting Hamas
|
The Simon Wiesenthal Center slammed a statement issued by Venezuela, which unilaterally criticizes Israel for the current situation in Gaza. The official Declaration (http://www.mci.gob.ve/noticias/1/187158/gobierno_de_venezuela.html) states that President Hugo Chávez “expressed his indignation at the criminal attack by Israel in bombing the Palestinian people and urges a campaign to denounce these infamous violent actions, aimed at annihilating the hope for life of an entire people”.
“This unilateral condemnation of Israel by President Chávez exempts Hamas of all responsibility for the tragic events taking place. Not a single word on Hamas unilateral announcement the six-month truce with Israel; its abuse of Palestinian women, children and elderly as human shields placed on the roofs of mosques and schools from whence thousand of Hamas terrorist rockets are fired constantly against Israeli civilians. Jewish lives or self-defence are apparently inconsequential for President Chavez”, noted Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
“Two weeks ago, Chávez, together with Presidents Cristina Kirchner (Argentina) and Lula da Silva (Brazil) signed a joint Declaration against Antisemitism. His refusal to condemn Hamas is a first violation of his obligations under that Declaration. Hamas’ Charter highlights the notorious forgery, Protocols of the Elders of Zion, as undisputed evidence of Jewish plans to control the world (Clause 32). Such sentiments are part of Hamas’ worldview and threaten Jews worldwide. Indeed, Venezuela’s benediction can encourage assaults on Jewish communities in the Americas”, added Sergio Widder, Latin American Representative of the Center.
“In brief, this Declaration by Venezuela constitutes a direct support to Hamas terrorism and for its antisemitic credo”, Samuels and Widder concluded.

La declaración de Venezuela acerca de la situación en Medio Oriente
constituye un apoyo directo al terrorismo y al antisemitismo de Hamas
El Centro Simon Wiesenthal criticó enérgicamente la declaración emitida por el gobierno de Venezuela condenando unilateralmente a Israel por la situación que se vive en estos momentos en la Franja de Gaza.
La Declaración oficial (http://www.mci.gob.ve/noticias/1/187158/gobierno_de_venezuela.html) señala que “el Presidente de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías (…) quiere manifestar su profunda indignación ante el criminal ataque que constituye el bombardeo de Israel al pueblo palestino en la Franja de Gaza. El Gobierno expresa su solidaridad al pueblo palestino y eleva su voz para emprender una campaña de repudio a estas infames acciones violentas, a través de las cuales se busca aniquilar la esperanza de vida de un pueblo entero”.
“Esta condena unilateral contra Israel por parte del presidente Chávez exime a Hamas de toda responsabilidad por los hechos trágicos de estos días. No ha dicho una sola palabra sobre el anuncio unilateral de Hamas acerca de la tregua de seis meses con Israel, ni del abuso de mujeres, niños y ancianos palestinos al utilizarlos como escudos humanos ubicados en las azoteas de mezquitas y escuelas, desde donde se lanzan los miles de cohetes terroristas de Hamas contra los civiles israelíes. Las vidas judías o la auto-defensa aparentemente no tienen valor para el presidente Chávez”, destacó el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal.
“Hace dos semanas, Chávez firmó junto a los presidentes Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (Argentina) y Lula da Silva (Brasil) una Declaración contra el Antisemitismo. La negativa del presidente de Venezuela a condenar a Hamas es una primera violación a sus obligaciones de acuerdo a esa Declaración. La Carta Orgánica de Hamas destaca Los Protocolos de los Sabios de Sion, un notorio panfleto fabricado, como una prueba incontrastable acerca de los planes judíos para controlar el mundo (Cláusula 32). Esos conceptos forman parte de la cosmovisión de Hamas y son una amenaza para los judíos en todas partes. Esta bendición de Venezuela podría, de hecho, alentar ataques contra comunidades judías en las Américas”, agregó Sergio Widder, Representante para América Latina del Centro.
“En resumen, esta Declaración del gobierno venezolano constituye un apoyo directo al terrorismo de Hamas y a su credo antisemita”, concluyeron Samuels y Widder.
