Wiesenthal Center Repudiates General Union of Palestinian Students of Chile Antisemitic Campaign

“In the midst of  a civil conflict, they revert to the old scapegoat ”

“UGEP has chosen the shadow of the November 1938 'Kristalnacht' (The Night of Broken Glass) to call on the language of the pogrom that led to the Holocaust : "The Jews are our misfortune', "Do not Buy from Jews!", today revived as 'BDS', 'Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions"'

Buenos Aires and Paris - For several weeks, the world has observed with concern the serious social conflict unleashed in Chile.

Claims originating from historic social inequities have returned and continue to generate passions.  While society seeks to resolve inveterate conflicts, the use of violence worsens the situation.
In the midst of this conflict, the General Union of Palestinian Students of Chile (UGEP) issued a public statement falsely accusing the State of Israel for providing the weapons used by governmental forces to repress social protest.

Radicalized in solidarity with  Hamas' terrorist group, they identify causes around the world to, in turn,  accuse the State of Israel for their misfortune and by association, with  Jews in general, whom they  consider intrinsically evil.

Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Latin American Wiesenthal Center`s Representative, stated, “Those who represent the huge community of students from Palestinian origin, in the midst of the social conflict, far from seeking peace, have chosen to appeal again to the old resource of the scapegoat to target hatred and import a conflict that is not and must not become a Chilean one."

“UGEP has taken this opportunity to add fuel to the fire. They have chosen, in the shadow of the November 1938 'Kristalnacht' (The Night of Broken Glass), to call on the language of the pogrom that led to the Holocaust: "The Jews are our misfortune', "Do not Buy from Jews!" (Today revived as 'BDS' - Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions). Palestinians could have had their own State alongside Israel under the United Nations 1947 Partition Resolution, but to quote the late Abba Eban, former Israeli Foreign Minister, 'Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity'," concluded Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Center.

Desde hace unas semanas, el mundo observa con preocupación los graves conflictos sociales desatados en Chile.

Las reclamaciones originadas en inequidades sociales históricas salieron a la luz violentamente y continúan generando conmociones. La sociedad busca resolver conflictos inveterados mientras el uso de la violencia empeora la situación, lejos de calmarla.

En medio de este conflicto, la Unión General de Estudiantes Palestinos de Chile (UGEP) emitió una declaración pública a través responsabilizando al Estado de Israel de proporcionar las armas utilizadas por las fuerzas gubernamentales para reprimimir la protesta social.

Radicalizados en solidaridad con el grupo terrorista Hamas, entienden que su lucha en cualquier parte del mundo es con el Estado de Israel y, por extensión, con los judíos en general, a quienes consideran intrínsecamente malvados.

El Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representante del Centro Wiesenthal para América Latina, dijo que "aquellos que representan a la gran comunidad de estudiantes de origen palestino, en medio del conflicto social, lejos de buscar la paz, han echado mano al viejo recurso del chivo expiatorio para direccionar el odio e importar un conflicto que no es ni debe ser chileno. "

“La UGEP echa combustible al fuego… evoca la 'Kristalnacht' (La Noche de los Cristales Rotos) de noviembre de 1938 con el lenguaje del pogrom que condujo al Holocausto:" Los judíos son nuestra desgracia "," ¡No compre a los judíos! ", (reinventado hoy como 'BDS', 'Boicot, desinversión, sanciones) … Los palestinos podrían haber tenido su propio Estado junto al de Israel bajo la Resolución de Partición de 1947 de las Naciones Unidas ... Sin embargo, para citar al fallecido Abba Eban, ex Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Israel, "los palestinos nunca pierden la oportunidad de perder una oportunidad", concluyó el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro.
