SWC Outraged by Virulent Anti-Semitic Cartoon in Leading Norway Newspaper

May 29, 2013

Jerusalem,

"The Simon Wiesenthal Center denounces the blood libel cartoon published in Dagbladet, so virulently anti-Semitic it would make Hitler and Himmler weep tears of joy," said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish Human Rights NGO, who is currently attending the Global Forum on Anti-Semitism in Jerusalem.

"We call upon Norway's leaders to denounce this incitement to hate and especially urge the Ombudsman for Children's Rights to denounce this outrageous denigration of a core Jewish rite dating back to the biblical times of Abraham," Cooper added.

Cartoon reads:

•Mother of Jewish child holding blood soaked Torah: "Mistreating? No this is tradition, an important part of our belief!"

•Rabbi on the left holding a torah and a Devil's fork on the child's head and taking off the toes of the child (mocking brit milah/circumcision).

•Police response: "Belief? Oh yes, then it is allright."

•Second officer: "Sorry for the interruption."
