Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the United States House Foreign Affairs Committee discussed Hamas' use of civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza during the current war with Israel at a press conference with Simon Wiesenthal Center leaders. Chairman Royce told the media, in part:

• “Thanks to the Iron Dome, thousands of casualties have been diminished …

• During a recent one hour meeting with the Israeli Ambassador, he was alerted seven times that rockets were rockets heading towards Israeli cities …

• Israel uses Iron Dome to protect its people … Hamas asks its people to be human shields to protect rockets and rocket launchers …

• Since 1997, the United States has labeled Hamas a terrorist organization …

• Israel has as right to defend its people. Hamas is deliberately targeting citizens; beyond targeting Israeli civilians, and kidnapping through reinforced tunnels …

• Syringes and handcuffs have been found in the tunnels - closing down tunnels is so important …

• Hamas spokesman has encouraged residents to act as human shields; world cannot let terrorists embed themselves in civilian populations …

• House of Representatives passed a resolution denouncing the use of civilian shields by Hamas and supports Israel’s right to defend herself …

• UNRWA [United Nations Relief and Works Agency] has not played a positive role in this conflict. Their leadership turns rockets back over to Hamas" …
