SWC: Iranian Regime: in a Class of its Own When it Comes to Lies and Deceit

November 20, 2013

The truth is the greatest disinfectant and the plain truth is that the Iranian regime has used the cloak of diplomacy and lies for more than a decade as it pursued dual capacities to make nuclear weapons

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish human rights NGO, ridiculed Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for accusing Israel of wanting to "torpedo" an agreement on Iran's nuclear program. "We have reason to be suspicious of every move they make... every move they make is about spreading tension and mistrust," Zarif said at a news conference in Rome.

"Listening to the Iranian foreign minister you would think that the international community has imposed stringent sanctions on the Iranian regime because of its devotion to human dignity and tolerance and its disdain for lying and deceit," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, Simon Wiesenthal Center founder and dean and Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean.

“The plain truth is that the Iranian regime has used the cloak of diplomacy and lies for more than a decade as it pursued dual capacities to make nuclear weapons while at the same time has deployed its foreign lackeys to carry out terrorist attacks around the world and has used its own forces to prop up the regime of the Syrian President Assad, even as he commits crimes against humanity against his own people," they added.

French President Holland, Israeli PM Netanyahu and Iran's neighbors are right to demand that before any sanctions are removed, there must be verifiable proof from this regime that it will permanently stop its nuclear weapons programs", Hier and Cooper concluded.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he opposes the deal sought by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry that would loosen economic sanctions on Tehran in exchange for suspending part of its nuclear program. "It's a bad deal -- an exceedingly bad deal," Netanyahu told CNN on Sunday. He said he wants further concessions from Iran before any sanctions are relaxed.
