SWC Commemorates Anniversary of Terrorist Attack that Killed Five Argentinians

The Simon Wiesenthal Center and Financial Intelligence Research Foundation (FININT) joined together in organizing a memorial for the five friends who died two years ago in a terrorist attack in New York City.

While celebrating thirty years of friendship, a gorup of ten friends from Rosario, Argentina traveled to New York City together. They were riding bicycles when the group was purposefully hit by a speeding truck, driven Sayfullo Saipov, of Uzbek origin, who ran over five of them, out of a total of 8 victims.

The terrorist, who was immediately arrested, is waiting for the trial that will take place on April 19, 2020 and for whom the Federal Prosecutor will ask for the death penalty.

The massive event was held in the University Cultural Space (ECU) of the National University of Rosario and was opened by its Rector and declared of provincial and municipal interest. TV producer Gerardo Rozin acted as host.

Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Latin American Wiesenthal Center's Representative, referred to the new paradigm of terrorism and the influence of social media in the radicalization and preparation of the perpetrators. He concluded that “all the sacred scriptures refer to creating order to replace chaos. No one can use the name of G-d to transform a beautiful world into a chaotic one."

Dr. Juan Félix Marteau, President of FININT, said, “The punishment of those responsible for the NY attack on October 31, 2017, will not only restore the validity of the law, but will also indicate the failure of hatred and fanaticism as a life project. But most importantly, it allows families of the victims and especially children to have the expectation that tolerance and respect for difference continue to be a possible way of life.”

Interfaith leaders of 8 different religions presented a joint invocation.
 

After hearing the testimony and meaningful message of the widows, who gathered under the banner, "MAY LOVE OVERCOME HATE", closed the event with the participation of singer Juan Carlos Baglietto.

Acto Central de Homenaje a los Amigos Rosarinos Fallecidos en el Atentado de Nueva York

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal y FININT (Fundación de Investigación de Inteligencia Financiera),  con un imporatante apoyo de la Filial Rosario de DAIA, organizaron en esta ciudad el acto central de homenaje a los cinco amigos fallecidos exactamente hace dos años en un atentado terrorista en la Ciudad de Nueva York.
Diez amigos festejaban sus treinta años de amistad viajando juntos, paseaban en bicicleta cuando Sayfullo Saipov, de origen uzbeko al volante de una camioneta a gran velocidad arrolló a cinco de ellos, de un total de 8 víctimas.
El terrorista, que fue inmediatamente detenido, se encuentra a la espera del juicio que se llevará a cabo el próximo 19 de abril y para quien el Fiscal Federal pedirá pena de muerte.
El multitudinario acto se llevó a cabo en el Espacio Cultural Universitario (ECU) de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario y fue abierto por el Rector y fue declarado de interés provincial y municipal. El productor televisivo Gerardo Rozin actuó como conductor.

El Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representante del Centro Wiesenthal para América Latina se refirió al nuevo paradigma del terrorismo y la influencia de las redes sociales en la radicalización y preparación de los perpetradores. Concluyó que “todas las escrituras sagradas se refieren a crear orden para reemplazar al caos. Nadie puede usar el nombre de Dios para transformar un mundo bello en caótico.“
Por su parte, el Dr. Juan Félix Marteau, Presidente de FININT, sostuvo que “el castigo a los responsables del ataque de NY el 31 de octubre de 2017 no solo restituye la vigencia de la ley y señala el fracaso del odio y el fanatismo como proyecto de vida. Pero lo más importante, permite a las familias de las víctimas directas y en especial a los hijos tener la expectativa de que tolerancia y el respeto a la diferencia continúan siendo caminos posibles de vida.”
Líderes religiosos de 8 distintos credos participaron con una invocación conjunta.

Luego de escuchar el testimonio y sentido mensaje de las viudas, quienes se nuclean bajo el lema “QUE EL AMOR VENZA AL ODIO”, cerró el acto con la participación comprometida del cantante Juan Carlos Baglietto.
