SWC Chicago Regional Office to Lead Solidarity with Israel Event

October 20, 2023

The Simon Wiesenthal Center’s (SWC) Chicago-based Midwest Regional Office will lead a large Solidarity event with Israel this Sunday, October 22. SWC will be joined by more than a dozen organizations and its affiliate the Mobile Museum of Tolerance.

This event comes after the legal counsel for the Illinois Comptroller’s office after allegedly sending anti-Semitic direct messages on Instagram.

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean and Director of Global Socail Action at the SWC, issued the following statement:

“SWC commends the Illinois Comptroller for immediately firing their legal counsel for shocking anti-Semitic messaging that threatened Zionists and declared that ‘Hitler should have eradicated all of you.’

Anti-Semitism has been soaring across the US even before the Hamas mass murder of 1000 Jews in Israel on October 7th. But since then, we have witnessed explosions of ant--Semitism with 400 percent increase in US, 500 percent in the UK and 200 incidents in France in the week following Hamas’ terrorist butchery.

Our community is especially grateful for the swift action taken by the Comptroller and hope it will inspire the heads of America’s elite universities to finally and firmly deal with the burgeoning pro-Hamas and anti-Semitic activity on their campuses.”
