SWC: “Chavez Imports Mid East Conflict to Latin America as Cover Up for Local Rights Violations”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez called on his Bolivia and Nicaragua allies to assault Israel at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva during the debate on the Gaza flotilla.

The move was directed by Venezuelan ally, Iran’s Ahmadinejad, thus importing the Mid East conflict into Latin America.

Both presidents have exploited the well-known tactic of Jewish conspiracy to cover up their domestic rights violations.

Hugo Chávez now accuses Israel of “financing the Venezuelan opposition, the counter-revolution”, and that “there are Mossad commandos who want to murder me.” He added provocatively that “I doubt that a Venezuelan Jew would support such an atrocity”.

“This transposal of the Arab-Israeli conflict exposes Latin America to an Iranian influence that endangers hard won democracy and, especially, Jewish communities across the continent. The OAS must hold Chávez to account for the consequences”, said Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

“In January, 2009, following Chavez’ expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador, a pro-government group published a plan of action against the Jewish community. This was followed by the desecration of the Mariperez Synagogue”, added Sergio Widder, Director for Latin America of the Center.

Centro Wiesenthal: “Chávez importa el conflicto de Medio Oriente a Latinoamérica para encubrir abusos locales”


El presidente venezolano Hugo Chávez activó ayer a sus acólitos Bolivia y Nicaragua para atacar a Israel en el Consejo de Derechos Humanos de Naciones Unidas, en Ginebra, durante el debate acerca de la “flotilla de Gaza”.

Al timón del proyecto de odio de su aliado estratégico, el presidente iraní Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Chávez importa el conflicto de Medio Oriente hacia América Latina. Ambos mandatarios han sabido explotar bien el discurso de “la conspiración judía” como una manera de encubrir sus propias domésticas violaciones contra derechos básicos.

Chávez acusa ahora a Israel de “financiar a la oposición venezolana, la contrarrevolución” y de la existencia de “comandos del Mossad que pretenden asesinarme”. De manera provocativa, Chávez agregó que “yo dudo mucho que un judío venezolano apoye una atrocidad como esa”.

“Esta transposición del conflicto árabe-israelí expone a América Latina a una influencia iraní que pone en riesgo a las democracias tan duramente logradas, y especialmente a las comunidades judías a lo largo del continente. La OEA debe considerar a Chávez responsable por las consecuencias”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal.

“En enero de 2009, luego de que Chávez expulsara al embajador israelí, un grupo cercano al gobierno llamado Aporrea publicó un programa de acción contra la comunidad judía. A los pocos días, fue profanada la sinagoga de Maripérez”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director para América Latina del Centro.
