STATEMENT OF THE SIMON WIESENTHAL CENTER ON THE DEPORTATION OF JOHN
DEMJANJUK
"Now, John Demjanjuk will finally face the bar of justice for the
unspeakable crimes he committed during World War II in what will
probably be the last trial of a Nazi war criminal," said Rabbi Marvin
Hier, Wiesenthal Center Founder. “The Simon Wiesenthal Center has been
involved in the Demjanjuk case for many years. His work at the Sobibor
death camp was to push men, women and children into the gas chamber. He
had no mercy, no pity and no remorse for the families whose lives he was
destroying forever. His defenders say that at 89, he is too old to be
deported. His 29,000 victims would have only wished that they would have
been so fortunate to reach the age of 89. John Demjanjuk deserves to be
punished for the unspeakable crimes he committed,” Hier concluded.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish
human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the
United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the
United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS, the Council of Europe and the
Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
