Statement from the Simon Wiesenthal Center on Congressman Lantos’ Announcement

"We join in prayer for Tom Lantos' full recovery from cancer and wish him and Annette a full and active life upon his retirement. Congressman Lantos was a Holocaust survivor who devoted all his energies to defending the helpless and steadfastly supporting a safe and secure State of Israel," said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, dean and associate dean (respectively) of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. “Human Rights is losing its most distinguished and effective advocate on Capitol Hill," they added.

TheSimonWiesenthalCenteris one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in theUnited States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, and the Council of Europe.
