Commends Peru’s Breaking of Diplomatic Relations with Tripoli

The Simon Wiesenthal Center harshly criticized the governments of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela for their continuing support of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi in his brutal war against the Libyan people.

“The solidarity with a four-decade long dictator who is butchering his own people is shameful and criminal”, stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center. “In contrast, we commend the decision by the President of Peru, Alan García, who decided to break diplomatic relations with the Libyan regime”, he added.

“Our region has suffered authoritarianism and bloodshed from tyrants. The support for Gadhafi by Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela is an offense to the memory of the victims of Latin American dictatorships. We call on Latin American countries to follow the path of Peru and break all ties with the Lybian dictatorship”, added Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.

El apoyo de Cuba, Nicaragua y Venezuela al dictador Khadaffi es un escándalo y un insulto a las víctimas de las dictaduras en América Latina. Elogian la ruptura de relaciones por parte de Perú.

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal criticó enérgicamente a los gobiernos de Cuba, Nicaragua y Venezuela, que han manifestado su apoyo al dictador libio Muammar Khadafi en su guerra contra el pueblo libio.

“La solidaridad con un dictador que lleva más de cuatro décadas y está masacrando a su propio pueblo es vergonzosa y criminal”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal. “En contraste, destacamos la decisión del presidente de Perú, Alan García, quien rompió relaciones con el régimen libio”, agregó.

“El apoyo a Khadafi por parte de Cuba, Nicaragua y Venezuela es una ofensa a la memoria de las víctimas de las dictaduras latinoamericanas. Nuestra región ha sufrido el autoritarismo y el derramamiento de sangre a manos de gobiernos tiranos.
