“They have piled a bald-face lie upon Badie’s anti-Semitic call for Jihad”

 
The Muslim Brotherhood denied on Sunday their Supreme Guide had called for a “holy Jihad” against Israel after the Simon Wiesenthal Center called for US President Barack Obama to sever all ties with the Brotherhood, Egypt’s Daily News reported on Sunday. According to the independent newspaper, Muslim Brotherhood spokesman, Waleed Shalaby, dismissed the accusations, denying Badie ever said such things. Badie himself was not available for comment.

Badie’s screed was appeared last Thursday in al Ahram. The Muslim Brotherhood’s supreme guide, Mohammed Badie, was quoted as saying that Jews spread “corruption on earth, spilled the blood of believers and in their actions profane holy places, including their own.” Badie was also reported to have called for Arab nations to resist Israel “through holy Jihad, high sacrifices and all forms of resistance,” accusing Zionists of only understanding the language of force.

“The Simon Wiesenthal Center rejects the laughable denial by the Muslim Brotherhood spokesman that its Supreme Guide never made such statements. Mohammed Badie has remained silent since its publication last Thursday in the official government-owned al Ahram newspaper. The Wiesenthal Center has been following the Muslim Brotherhood for many years and we are not surprised that they would heap such a bald-faced lie upon the Supreme Guide's hateful and shameful anti-Semitic attack. We reiterate our call to President Obama to publicly condemn Badie’s attack and order the cutoff of all official and unofficial contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier and Rabbi Abraham Cooper the founder and dean and associate dean of the leading Jewish Human Rights NGO.

Meanwhile, Abdel Aleem Mohamed, a consultant and Israeli affairs expert for the Ahram Strategic Center, told the Daily News, that, if true, Badie's quotes were, “very general, unacceptable and unscientific because like any other group of people, there are good and bad ones.”

Aleem Mohamed added that any discussion of Israel from a religious standpoint yields no positive outcomes. “All the decisions and dealings with Israel are in accordance to international laws and treaties and as such it is also for our benefit to uphold these laws and treaties,” he told the independent English language newspaper.
