The Simon Wiesenthal Center is grateful for the LASD’s professionalism and commitment in dealing with this hate crime at Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California, (a suburb of Los Angeles). "This sends a message that any hate attack - whoever the perpetrator or whatever the target - that our law enforcement agencies will deal seriously and expeditiously with such incidents. The Jewish community will await word for District Attorney Cooley’s decision as to how best proceed in the case," said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the Center's Associate Dean.

Sheriff‘s detectives to seek hate crime enhancement for Calabasas High School vandalism

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station continues its investigation of the criminal vandalism of Calabasas High School. The three (3) juvenile subjects identified on April 26th were arrested on Wednesday, April 27th.

Sheriff’s investigators intend to present their investigative reports to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office of Juvenile Court on Tuesday, May 3rd.
The repairs to the school have been completed. The costs exceed $6,000.00.

Based upon all the information available to sheriff’s investigators, the allegations that will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration are: felony vandalism (CA Penal Code section 594(b)(1), coupled with the hate crime enhancement described in Penal Code section 422.75 PC.
