Prominent Architect Richard Meier Supports Wiesenthal Center Campaign

April 8, 2014

"I find this incredible that the RIBA which I thought as being an honorable institution would vote or agitate against Israel"

On 26 March, the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Director for International
Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, protested to the President of the International Union of Architects (IUA), regarding the boycott campaign of its British member - the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) - directed against the over 7000 Jewish and Arab members of the Israel Association of United Architects (IAU).

Samuels had then noted that "RIBA had voted for the suspension of the Israeli member from the international body of 1,300.000 architects represented at the IAU Congress, to take place in Durban, in South Africa, in August 2014"

The United States prominent architect, Richard Meier of New York and
Los Angeles and a Fellow of RIBA, is the first to support the Wiesenthal Center campaign, through his protest letter of 8 April to Stephen Hodder, President of RIBA.

"We hope that other architects will follow Mr. Meier's example to the profession," commented Samuels.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400.000 members. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the OAS and the Latin American Parliament.
