Wiesenthal Centre Condemns Malmö Hosting HAMAS Antisemitic Conference

May 26, 2023

Paris - In 2010, the Wiesenthal Centre had issued a “Travel Advisory” on Malmö, Sweden, for the constant attacks on Jews and Judaism in that city.

Despite visits by the Centre’s officials - Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Director for Global Social Action and Associate Dean of the Centre, together with Dr. Shimon Samuels, the Centre’s Director for International Relations - hatred persisted, as in the Malmö Arab Book Fair of 2020, that was terminated thanks to the Centre's alerting local authorities. MEMRI has exposed the purpose of a conference to be held tomorrow, Saturday 27 May, entitled “75 Years On... We Will Return!”, to be attended by some “20,000 Palestinians from around Europe, but also European Parliament members and other politicians.”

Multiple sources - including the PLO - confirm there are no doubts regarding the conference organizers’ allegiance to the agenda of HAMAS and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Furthermore, this is apparently an occasion for terrorist organization HAMAS (*) - whose Charter includes “the killing of Jews not just in Israel, but everywhere!” - to take control of the Palestinian issue from the PLO-Fatah and other groups.

MEMRI has also quoted a Tehran-based political analyst, who last week, stated through Al-Jazeera Qatar, “Iran provides rockets to the Gaza factions [including HAMAS and Palestinian Islamic Jihad] and will continue to do so.”

Only last year, the Swedish Government held a one-day Zoom meeting in Malmö, gathering international leaders and organizations against antisemitism. Nevertheless, the Wiesenthal Centre has rightly maintained its “Travel Advisory”, as Swedish authorities still do not seem to be able to avert public expressions of Jew-hatred and antisemitism in the city.

The Centre has called on Sweden’s Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, to denounce this hatemongering event, not only targeting Israel, but also set against the Jewish people and its friends, according to the HAMAS Charter “everywhere!”

(*) HAMAS is designated as a terrorist organization by Canada, the European Union, Israel, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. It is not considered a terrorist organization by Brazil, China, Egypt, Iran, Norway, Qatar, Russia, Syria and Turkey.
