As the world commemorates Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, our work at the Simon Wiesenthal Center has never been more urgent. Every day, we effectively combat and confront the escalation of Holocaust denial and revisionism, preserve the memory of the Shoah and more, through hard-hitting and effective ways such as:

• Screening our two-time Academy® Award-winning documentaries on television and in theaters which have been seen by millions of people worldwide; and in partnership with the U.S. State Department, our films have been subtitled into 12 languages.

• Exhibiting our powerful exhibition on the Holocaust, The Courage to Remember, which has been visited by millions of people in countries across the globe. In recent months, it has debuted in Mumbai, India and as part of a U.N. program for International Holocaust Memorial Day, in Bangkok, Thailand. Both cities are places where Hitler’s writings and the Nazi Swastika have become disturbingly popular. And for the first time on Holocaust Memorial Day, the exhibition debuted in Africa, in Nairobi, Kenya and is still on display in Havana, Cuba. After its initial presentation, The Courage to Remember remains in each city, providing a key permanent educational resource for people there.

• Teaching the lessons of the Holocaust in a dynamic and interactive way to the over 5 million visitors, including 1.5 million children, at the SWC’s acclaimed Museum of Tolerance, for the last twenty years.

• Speaking at the Museum of Tolerance, every day, are Holocaust survivors who share their personal stories with Museum visitors.

• Helping bring Nazi criminals to justice by SWC Israel Director and Chief Nazi Hunter Dr. Efraim Zuroff, whose innovative research has helped identify over 2,800 suspected Nazi war criminals. In recent years, the “Operation: Last Chance” project has been particularly active in Eastern Europe, helping identify Holocaust perpetrators and convince often-reluctant governments to bring local Nazi war criminals to justice.

• Holding countries accountable for Holocaust denial and revisionism. Dr. Efraim Zuroff has been in the forefront of protests against neo-Nazi marches in the largest cities in the Baltics. SWC Government Affairs Director Mark Weitzman, is chairing a pivotal standing committee on anti-Semitism and Holocaust Denial at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. As part of that critical work, Mr. Weitzman also oversees a working group for public education at the European Shoah Legacy Institute.

• Participating in the ceremony at Auschwitz marking the 68th anniversary since the death camp’s liberation by the Soviets was SWC Director of International Affairs Director Dr. Shimon Samuels with European Jewish Parliament Co-Chairman Joel Rubinfeld.
