Iranian Terrorists Identified at Mecca Conference: Wiesenthal Centre Alerts Interpol and Calls for Argentine Detention Request to Riyadh

INTERPOL last November issued "red notice" international arrest warrants for 8 Iranians and 1 Lebanese Hizbollah terrorist, indicted by the Argentine Government for complicity in the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community in Buenos Aires that left over 100 dead and maimed.
These included former President Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and his advisor, Mohsen Rezai. According to PRESS TV of Iran (www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=58449§ionid=351020101), Rezai - currently Secretary of Iran's Expediency Council - is accompanying Rafsanjani on a State visit to Saudi Arabia.
The Simon Wiesenthal Centre's Director for International Relations, Dr Shimon Samuels, advised INTERPOL Secretary-General, Ronald K. Noble, that "both are in Mecca by invitation of Saudi officials, ironically to attend a Muslim world conference to establish principles for contact with other religions, including Judaism," and urged him "to call on Riyadh, as a signatory to INTERPOL, to abide by its international commitments and to immediately detain, at least, Mohsen Rezai until an extradition order can be obtained from Argentina."
He added that "INTERPOL is best placed to apprise the Saudi authorities that, perhaps unwittingly, they are granting shelter to international terrorists and must act accordingly."
In parallel, the Centre's Latin American Representative, Sergio Widder, requested Argentine Foreign Minister, Jorge Taiana, to demand the immediate detention of Rafsanjani and Rezai and to take the necessary measures for their extradition to Argentina for trial."
The Special Prosecutor in charge of the AMIA bombing investigation, Alberto Nisman, has confirmed to the Centre that the Argentine request to Saudi Arabia is now in process.
"The Wiesenthal Centre is especially saddened that, by the presence of these antisemitic terrorists, the Saudi much-vaunted Muslim interfaith conference has been betrayed," noted Centre officials.

Terroristas iraníes identificados en una Conferencia en La Meca - El Centro Wiesenthal alertó a INTERPOL y solicitó que Argentina requiera su extradición

En noviembre de 2007, INTERPOL emitió “notificaciones rojas” para el arresto internacional de ocho iraníes y un terrorista libanés de Hezbollah, acusados por Argentina por su complicidad con el atentado contra la AMIA, que provocó la muerte de 85 personas y 150 heridos.
Entre quienes son requeridos se encuentran el ex presidente Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani y su asesor Mohsen Rezai. De acuerdo al sitio web iraní Press TV (http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=58449§ionid=351020101), Rezai -quien en la actualidad ostenta un rango de Secretario de Estado-, está acompañando a Rafsanjani en una visita oficial a Arabia Saudita.
El Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, Dr. Shimon Samuels, alertó al Secretario General de INTERPOL, Ronald K. Noble, que “ambos se encuentran en La Meca, invitados por funcionarios saudíes, para asistir, irónicamente, a una conferencia internacional musulmana convocada a efectos de establecer principios para las relaciones con otras religiones, incluyendo el judaísmo”, y lo urgió a “comunicarse con Riad para que, como signatario de INTERPOL, obre de acuerdo a sus compromisos internacionales y detenga inmediatamente, como mínimo, a Mohsen Rezai, hasta tanto se diligencie un pedido de extradición desde Argentina”.
Agregó que “INTERPOL es quien mejor puede comunicar a las autoridades saudíes que, quizás sin saberlo, están brindando refugio a terroristas internacionales y deben actuar adecuadamente”.
Paralelamente, el Representante para América Latina del Centro Wiesenthal, Sergio Widder, requirió al Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Argentina, Jorge Taiana, que reclamara la inmediata detención de Rafsanjani y Rezai y que tomara todas las medidas necesarias para lograr su extradición para ser sometido a juicio en Argentina.
La Unidad de Investigación de la causa AMIA a cargo del fiscal Alberto Nisman confirmó al Centro que ya ha emitido los requerimientos correspondientes ante Arabia Saudita.
