"The Center will not be browbeaten nor cease its monitoring and denunciation of all organizations that foment antisemitism and other forms of hatred that contravene 'freedom of freedom of expression' provisions - these include the threats of the Alawite Benevolence Union."
Buenos Aires
For the second year running, the Wiesenthal Centre exposed the Al Quds (Jerusalem) Day calls for the “destruction of Israel” by the Iran-supported Argentine Alawite Benevolence Union.
Its leader, Sheikh Mohsen Gabriel Ali - also Director of the Home for the Propagation of Islam - responded with threats against the Center:
"In the Name of Allah the Merciful the Compassionate... the Alawite Union condemns and rejects the harassment and ideological persecution campaign against leaders of the Arab and Islamic community of Argentina, for years carried out by the fundamentalist Zionist organisation, the Simon Wiesenthal Center"..."This time, we put special emphasis on the swipe against Sheikh Mohsen Gabriel Ali, for his call to emancipate historic Palestine from the yoke of the Israeli terrorist state."
The Sheikh cautioned "Dr. Ariel Gelblung, [Latin American] head of that Zionist organization that, unlike the terrorist state of Israel where millions of Palestinians are expelled from their lands, imprisoned, tortured and executed for defending their rights, the Argentine Republic has the rule of law and its Constitution guarantees freedom of expression to all its citizens, regardless of gender, religion, political ideology and nationality."
He warned Gelbung "to cease his pursuit of our community leaders..."
Dr. Gelblung, supported by Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, assured the Sheikh that the Center will "not be browbeaten nor cease its monitoring and denunciation of all organizations that foment antisemitism and other forms of hatred that contravene 'freedom of freedom of expression provisions - these include the threats of the Alawite Benevolence Union.”
