The Wiesenthal Center expressed satisfaction at Argentine Football Association (AFA) Disciplinary Court penalty to Chacarita Juniors Soccer Club following anti-Semitic slurs chanted at a match against Atlanta Soccer Club, on March 11, 2012 (see http://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=lsKWLbPJLnF&b=4441467&ct=11661353).

In an unprecedented decision based upon the Wiesenthal Center’s protest, the Disciplinary Court ruled that Chacarita Juniors would lose the points it had obtained in the match.

“This is a positive step in showing a red flag to hatred, and a precedent for other countries,” stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, SWC Director for International Relations.

“We expect that this decision will prevent such racist abuses in the future and are ready to cooperate with AFA in tolerance-building programs for soccer,” added Sergio Widder, SWC Director for Latin America.

The Center’s officials noted that they had received “dozens of e-mails from supporters of Chacarita, apologizing and disassociating themselves from the anti-Semitism, and stressing that they too are targeted with racist slogans. We encourage them to denounce such attacks to foster fair play not only on the soccer pitch itself, but among the soccer fans also,” concluded Samuels and Widder.

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal manifestó su satisfacción debido a la decisión del Tribunal de Disciplina de la Asociación del Fútbol Argentino (AFA) de sancionar al club Chacarita Juniors por los cantos antisemitas de su hinchada durante un partido contra el club Atlanta, el 11 de marzo de 2012 (ver http://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=lsKWLbPJLnF&b=4441467&ct=11661353).

En una decisión sin precedentes, que responde a una protesta protesta del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, el Tribunal de Disciplina resolvió que Chacarita Juniors perdería los puntos obtenidos en ese encuentro.

“Este es un paso positivo que muestra una tarjeta roja al odio, y constituye un precedente para otros países”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro).

“Esperamos que esta decisión sirva para evitar las consignas racistas en el futuro. Estamos a disposición de AFA para cooperar en programas de promoción de la tolerancia en el fútbol”, agregó Sergio Widder (Director para América Latina).

Los directivos del Centro destacaron que “hemos recibido docenas de correos electrónicos de simpatizantes de Chacarita expresando sus disculpas y desasociándose de los cantos antisemitas. Nos informaron que ellos también reciben cantos racistas. Los estimulamos a que denuncien esos ataques, para fortalecer el fair play no sólo dentro del campo de juego sino también entre los amantes del fútbol”, concluyeron Samuels y Widder.
