The Center views “Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Bashar al Assad as the principal beneficiaries of Hugo Chávez’ reelection, promising another six years of Venezuela in the service of such tyrants.”

“Hugo Chavez’ triumph can only strengthen Iran’s political and military penetration of Latin America:
- their 2,000 mile range Shahab 3 missile launching platforms on Venezuela’s Caribbean coast targeting Florida;
- as patron of global terrorism, their seeding of Hizbollah sleeper cells in the Venezuelan-led ALBA bloc and the Argentina-Brazil-Paraguay ‘Triple Frontier’ region.

These threaten the entire Western hemisphere”, argued Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center. “Indeed, it was Chavez who reportedly facilitated the recent dialogue between Argentina and Iran, clearly aimed at closing both the AMIA Jewish Center bombing investigation and Buenos Aires’ demand for extradition of the Iranians complicit in that atrocity”, added Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.
The Center highlighted election eve anti-Semitic incitement by Alberto ‘Chino’ Farías - leader of the Venezuelan paramilitary Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA)- who attacked the opposition candidate as “the Israeli Capriles Radonski”.

From his office in the Venezuelan National Assembly, Farías told the Spanish daily ABC that the elections were “a confrontation between two forces: one of darkness, symbolized by the Venezuelan bourgeoisie represented by the Israeli family of Henrique Capriles Radonski, and the other of transparency and light, socialism and Christianity, represented by Hugo Chávez” (http://www.abc.es/20121004/internacional/abci-plomo-chavez-capriles-201210041155.html).

In the interview, Farias spoke of his telephone contact with the Venezuelan terrorist “Carlos” Ilich Ramírez (in a French prison for murder), and his alliance with international terrorism such as the Basque ETA and the Colombian FARC. Asked about the murder of three Capriles Radonski supporters during the campaign, he replied, “In every war you have dead people.”

“Chavez has made the anti-Semitism-terrorism nexus a Venezuelan State policy, endorsed by Farias’ statements, revealing the government’s ties with international terrorism. Six more years of the Caracas-Tehran axis could be as perilous as an Afghanistan with oil,” noted Samuels.

“Farías is a government official with offices at the National Assembly. His references to Capriles Radonski’s Jewish / fictitious ‘Israeli’ background put Jews at risk. For damage control, Chavez must publically condemn and divest Farías of his political functions,” concluded Widder.

“La victoria de Chávez se celebra en Teherán y Damasco” El Centro Wiesenthal pone de relieve incitación antisemita
en vísperas de las elecciones venezolanas

“Mahmoud Ahmadinejad y Bashar Al Assad celebran la relección de su aliado Hugo Chávez, que promete otros seis años de Venezuela al servicio de semejantes tiranías”

“El triunfo de Hugo Chávez fortalece la penetración política y militar iraní en América Latina, con sus plataformas para misiles Shahab 3 –sobre la costa caribeña venezolana y con un alcance de 3.000 kilómetros, apuntando a la Florida-, y en su carácter de patrocinador del terrorismo internacional, por intermedio de las células dormidas de Hezbollah en el bloque ALBA que lidera Venezuela y en la región de la ‘Triple Frontera’ entre Argentina, Brasil y Paraguay. Estas circunstancias constituyen una amenaza para todo el hemisferio occidental”, sostuvo el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director para América Latina del Centro Simon Wiesenthal.

“De hecho, es muy probable que fuese Chávez quien haya facilitado el reciente diálogo entre Argentina e Irán, claramente orientado a clausurar tanto la investigación del ataque terrorista contra la AMIA como los pedidos de captura de los iraníes sospechados de complicidad en esa atrocidad”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director para América Latina del Centro.
El Centro puso de relieve la incitación antisemita, en vísperas de la elección, por parte Alberto ‘Chino’ Farías, jefe del grupo paramilitar venezolano Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru (MRTA), quien atacó al se refirió al candidato opositor como el “israelí Capriles Radonski”.

En una entrevista concedida al periódico español ABC en su oficina de la Comisión Permanente de Ciencia y Tecnología de la Asamblea Nacional venezolana, Farías dijo que en las elecciones se enfrentaban “dos tendencias: la de la oscuridad representada por la burguesía venezolana, que simboliza la familia israelí de Henrique Capriles Radonski, y la de claridad, transparencia, cristiana y socialista que representa Hugo Chávez” (http://www.abc.es/20121004/internacional/abci-plomo-chavez-capriles-201210041155.html).

En el reportaje, Farías habló acerca de sus contactos telefónicos con el terrorista venezolano “Carlos” Ilich Ramírez (preso en Francia por homicidio), y de sus alianzas con la ETA y las FARC. En relación con el asesinato de tres simpatizantes de Capriles Radonski durante la campaña, dijo que “en toda guerra hay muertos”.

“Chávez ha institucionalizado el nexo antisemitismo-terrorismo como una política de Estado venezolana, ratificada por las declaraciones de Farías, quien revela los lazos del gobierno con el terrorismo internacional. Seis años más del eje Caracas – Teherán podrían ser tan peligrosos como un Afganistán con petróleo”, indicó Samuels.

“Farías es un funcionario gubernamental con despacho en la Asamblea Nacional. Su alusión al origen judío / falsamente ‘israelí’ de Capriles Radonski pone en riesgo a la comunidad judía venezolana. Como política de prevención de daños, Chávez debe condenar públicamente esas declaraciones y remover a Farías de sus funciones políticas”, concluyó Widder.
