Read about three of the latest incidents

At the University of California Irvine (UCI):

"F**k Israel” and “Long live the Intifada!" were chanted by an anti-Israel mob that disrupted a Hillel-sponsored screening of a film about Israel’s lone soldiers, Beneath the Helmet, by blocking some people from entering the screening and trying to take the shouting inside. Police had to escort the Jewish students to safety.

The SWC:

  • Met with UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman, just one week prior to the incident, where SWC Campus Outreach Director Aron Hier warned of a disturbing national trend of disrupting pro-Israel events.
  • Was assured by Chancellor Gillman, that a full investigation is underway.

At San Francisco State University (SFSU):

Anti-Israel protestors disrupted Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat’s recent speech, slandering Israel as a terrorist and apartheid state, chanting, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” and calling for a resumption of the Intifada.

The SWC:
  • Immediately reached out to the Vice Chancellor of the California State University system and denounced the protesters’ actions as an assault on free speech.
  • Urged that the university’s investigation include determining whether the disruption violated any California state laws and/or university policies.
  • Contacted SFSU President Leslie Wong who has been updating the SWC, informing us that an independent attorney has been hired to fully investigate the incident.

At City University New York (CUNY):

Following a spate of anti-Semitic and BDS issues which have recently come to a number of CUNY campuses.

The SWC:

  • Met with CUNY's Director of Risk and Management Howard Aspen to discuss issues of climate campus and anti-Semitism.
  • Has previously worked with the CUNY system on combating anti-Semitism and discrimination.
  • Has been working with CUNY to ensure that they have the necessary tools and resources they need to move forward.

The SWC continues to speak out against the extremist BDS and virulent anti-Israel incidents plaguing many of our nation’s leading campuses. We are in close contact with and provide invaluable expertise to Chancellors, Presidents and University policy makers to demand that institutions of higher learning safeguard our Jewish students from intimidation, harassment or hate crimes.

Help us to continue our work ensuring the safety and security of Jewish students on campuses everywhere.
