The Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned the antisemitic statements of Argentine radical trade unionist, Luis D’Elía, regarding the “Schoklender case”.

The Schoklender brothers had been jailed for murdering their parents. Their case had been adopted by a radical branch of “Las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo” (Mothers of the Disappeared under the military regime), led by Hebe de Bonafini (who glorified the 9/11 attacks). The Schoklenders are currently under investigation for defrauding tens of millions of dollars of public funds targeted for social housing.

Commenting on the case, D’Elía suggested that Schoklender was “a Mossad agent”, adding that “if you see the list of these people… they are all ‘paisanos’ [referring to Jews]; and led by two ‘paisanos’” (audio available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W-BdiGjtPM&feature=share).

“The D’Elia slurs must be viewed in a context that includes his filibusters obfuscating the AMIA bombing investigation and his praise of the Iranian President’s antisemitic discourse”, noted Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center ).

“D’Elía practices a kind of ‘antisemitism for dummies’: conspiracy theories, collective accusations against Jews as misers, thieves and cheats. The abuse of an individual case to attack all Jews is classical racism”, added Sergio Widder (the Center’s Director for Latin America ).

“His rhetoric may incite to violence, for which D’Elía should be held complicit”, concluded Samuels and Widder.

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal condenó de manera enérgica las declaraciones del dirigente piquetero Luis D’Elía acerca del “caso Schoklender”. D’Elía sugirió que el ex – apoderado de la Asociación Madres de Plaza de Mayo podría ser “un agente del Mossad”. Agregó que “vos mirás la lista de los muchachos estos… todos paisanos, y encabezados por estos dos paisanos”, en alusión a los hermanos Sergio y Pablo Schoklender. “Estos calumnias de D’Elía deben inscribirse en un contexto donde se incluye su pretensión de desviar el foco de la investigación del atentado contra la AMIA y la reivindicación de la prédica antisemita del presidente iraní”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal).

“Luis D’Elía practica un antisemitismo que parece extraído de un manual: teorías conspirativas, acusaciones colectivas a los judíos como codiciosos, ladrones y estafadores. El uso de un caso individual para agredir a toda la comunidad judía es una muestra de racismo clásico”, agregó Sergio Widder (Director para América Latina del Centro).
