Under the presidency of Hugo Chavez, the Jewish community of Venezuela has suffered repeated attacks, the most recent of which was the five-hour invasion of a Caracas synagogue by 15 armed thugs on a Shabbat evening.

This anti-Semitic campaign has increased under the pretext of the recent war between Israel and Hamas, to the point that a pro-government newspaper recently published an article calling for boycotts against Jewish-owned businesses and pushing for the dissolution of the Jewish State, among other outrages.

Venezuelan Jews are living in a constant state of fear and anxiety.

I therefore join with the Simon Wiesenthal Center in urging you to establish an OAS special field mission to investigate the situation in Venezuela, publish its findings, and recommend punitive action against all those who are responsible for this campaign of hatred against the Jewish people.
