ESTONIAN PRIME MINISTER MART LAAR WILL SPONSOR AN ESTONIANLANGUAGE VERSION OF COURAGE TO REMEMBER

The Simon Wiesenthal Center today announced that Estonian Prime Minister Mart Laar had agreed to sponsor the production of an Estonianlanguage version of the Centers mobile exhibition on the Holocaust Courage to Remember. The Prime Minister expressed his willingness to assume the project at a meeting, held in Tallinn yesterday, with the Centers Israel director Dr. Efraim Zuroff, who also coordinates the Wiesenthal Centers activities in the Baltics.

According to Zuroff, Estonia will be the second former Communist country in Eastern Europe to produce a local version of Courage to Remember. Earlier this year, Croatian President Stipe Mesic agreed to sponsor the Croatian version of the exhibition.

Prime Minister Laars leadership on the issue of Holocaust education is greatly appreciated and we hope that the Estonian version of Courage to Remember will have as wide an impact as possible on Estonian society, which is only beginning to confront its Holocaust past, said Zuroff.
